Cultural Distinction City of Benidorm
2006
For its ongoing work in preserving and disseminating traditional culture, an intangible heritage of great value, the city of Benidorm owes a great debt of gratitude to the La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association (ACR La Barqueta). This was recognized in 2006 when the City Council created the “City of Benidorm Cultural Distinction,” and La Barqueta was the first recipient for its proven and outstanding activity in the field of local culture and its dissemination.
This distinction was proposed by the city’s mayor, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, to the spokespeople of the two municipal groups at a meeting to agree on the commemorative events for Valencian Community Day. It was agreed to award the La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Society jointly, for its role in the reenactment of the Discovery of the Virgin of Suffrage and in the revival of Benidorm’s traditions.
Esta distinción fue propuesta por el alcalde de la ciudad, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, a los portavoces de los dos grupos municipales en una junta de portavoces para consensuar los actos conmemorativos del día de la Comunidad y se acordó premiar ex aequo a la Sociedad Cultural y Recreativa La Barqueta, responsable de la escenificación del Hallazgo de la Virgen del Sufragio y de la recuperación de las tradiciones de Benidorm

The Minister of Tourism and President of the Valencian Tourism Agency, by which the declaration of the Festivals of the Staging of the Encounter of the Virgin Mary of the Suffrage of Benidorm is granted as a festival of provincial tourist interest of the Valencian Community

For their invaluable work in maintaining the traditions of Benidorm, preserving unique features such as the Discovery of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge, the Christmas Nativity Scene or the various exhibitions that fill their program annually and with which they have ensured that local culture and traditions have not fallen into oblivion.
